The Mepilizatl
The term "Mepilizatl" is a Xochimechatlan one, and no proper translation exists for it. The Mepilizatl is an impartial civilian official whose task it is to put into effect the decisions made by the Council of Theocrats. Because the Mepilizatl is not associated with any of the nine temples, he or she is able to act as a neutral party in the government, and often works to ease tensions between various rival temples. The Mepilizatl is head of the Xochimechatlan equivalent of a civil service, known simply as the Office of the Mepilizatl. This Office is responsible for all government functions carried out by the administration of Xochimechatl, although since there are few of these, the Office is small. The current Mepilizatl is Zapacho Teotlatlo.
